Preparation is the secret to enjoying performing and ensuring in concerts Chansons sounds its best. Bringing a piece up to performance level is sometimes challenging, but always fun. It takes teamwork across voice parts and across the choir as a whole, to produce the best blended sound and the most articulate performance.

As a singer you will find Chansons a very friendly, welcoming choir. Most singers tend to sing with us whilst they remain in the area and pressures of work and family life allow. We usually have two or three new members a year so if you join, you will not be the only new singer.

We rehearse most Monday nights during school term-time in Perth. Few singers enjoy note bashing so we expect everyone to do some homework between rehearsals so we don’t take too much time learning notes. This can sometimes be musically challenging, but we learn together and share in the fun and enjoyment of singing beautiful choral music.

We plan our concerts to balance audience needs and to develop the musical skills and repertoire of the choir. So even experienced choral singers can expect to find new and interesting pieces to master.

Entry into the choir is by audition – some potential members feel daunted at the prospect of auditioning, but we will do all we can to make it an enjoyable experience.  Expect to be asked to sing a song, some scales to explore your range and do some sight reading.

For some voice parts, successful applicants may have to join a waiting list until a vacancy becomes available. When we have a gap due to a singer’s unavailability, singers on the waiting list are our first choice to invite to stand in and sing in a particular concert.

Currently we are actively recruiting a soprano and a bass; ideally a pure second bass or a singer with a flexible range.
